Graphic Help Desk - Digital File Submission

Supplying files to CAC for Print, Silk Screen, Embroidery, or Web development:

Digital files can be forwarded via standard e-mail. If there are many files or they are too large to transport via regular e-mail you can forward all via YouSendIt.com. Important: E-mail and YouSendIt do not offer security encryption, so please do not send critical or security sensitive materials using this method.

Accepted media for all artwork includes:

CD's
DVD's
Zip Disks
3.5" Disks
SD Memory Sticks/Cards
Digital Camera Output files on SD Memory Cards/CD/3.5 Disks/Portable Drives.

Print Work:

Our primary service is designing logos and printwork to your specifications. We understand that many have pre-existing artwork that we can adapt to your new design. When possible please provide all existing fonts and existing original graphic files when submitting your files.

When applicable, save your file with all fonts outlined as a precaution. When selecting Bold or Italic, select the appropriate Font for these attributes, not the B/I functions within the design program you are using.

For non-digital artwork, please include any existing ("clean - suitable for scanning") marketing materials, annual reports, letterhead, business cards, etc. for reference.

Please include all linked graphic files. This includes all graphics that were placed from vector programs such as Illustrator and Freehand, as well as any images placed into the vector programs. For example: if you have created a logo in Adobe Illustrator that contains a Photoshop image, you must provide us with both the Illustrator file as well as the Photoshop file.

Graphics application programs will not collect the Photoshop file, so you must manually copy it.

For Print Scanning:

All graphics should be in EPS or tiff format; avoid PICT and Windows BMP files.

Scan all color and grayscale photos at 300 dpi at the final size that they will be used in your document.

All line work should be scanned at no less than 1200 dpi at final size and saved as a tiff or bitmap.

For Color Printing:

Please use the following guidelines for color:

Save all color photos and vector images as CMYK
Choose colors from the Pantone swatch books, rather than color combinations that look good on your monitor
Colors from a low-end, non-color managed printer do NOT represent the color that will be printed
Please provide any previously printed material that we may have to match color

There are many graphic and design software applications, but we prefer the following that have the most recognition by reputable printers. If in question about any of these, please contact our Graphic Design Department.

  • ILLUSTRATOR: "Create outlines" on all fonts. All placed images must be included in b&w and created at a minimum of 600dpi. Placed images in color are unacceptable. .Ai and .eps are acceptable file formats.
  • PHOTOSHOP: B&W raster art must be created at a minimum of 600dpi. Scanned halftones are unacceptable. Multicolor raster art is not recommended but will only be accepted if sent color separated and created at a minimum of 600dpi. .Tiff and .eps are acceptable file formats.
  • FREEHAND: All fonts must "convert to paths". All placed images must be included in b&w and created at a minimum of 600dpi. Placed images in color are unacceptable. .Eps is the acceptable file format.
  • COREL DRAW: Change all fonts to curves. All placed images must be included in b&w and created at a minimum of 600dpi. Placed images in color are unacceptable. .Ai is the acceptable file format.

Adobe Illustrator (original .ai file saved with outlined fonts format, from version 7 & up)
Adobe Pagemaker (saved as an .eps file)
Adobe Photoshop (preferred as .psd file, but will accept .tiff or .jpg)
Quark Express (saved as an .eps file)
Adobe Acrobat (saved as a .pdf file)
Microsoft Word (for copy only)

Web Development:

We utilize the following programs for our web development and accept files with colors indicated in RGB mode in lieu of CMYK colors. Any files submitted in CMYK will be converted to RGB colors.

Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, Flash MX, Freehand, Fireworks
Adobe Photoshop (v. 5.0 & up)
Adobe Illustrator (v. 7.0 & up)
Microsoft Excel (for databases)
Microsoft Access (for databases)
Microsoft Word (for copy submission)

Existing digital graphic images may be supplied in 72 dpi - .jpeg or .gif format. However, for the best clarity on the web, it is preferred that you supply images in a .tiff format formatted for 300 dpi or above. We can then optimize them properly for web viewing.

For non-digital artwork, please include any existing ("clean - suitable for scanning") marketing materials, annual reports, letterhead, business cards, etc. for reference.

For Web Scanning:

Scan all color and grayscale photos at 600 dpi twice the size that they will be used in your website and saved as a .tiff file. DO NOT OPTIMIZE at 72dpi - we will do that once we resize the image to the finish size.

All linework should be scanned at no less than 600 dpi at original size and saved as a .tiff file.

When in doubt, scan all images and artwork as being done for print work.

Silk Screening:

We require a high quality black and white original, digitally printed at a minimum of 600 dpi, must be 80% of the actual imprint size. For best results, logo or design should have crisp, sharp edges. Additional fees may apply if further touch up is required. We cannot use pre-screened or pre-tinted artwork or halftones.

Some thin lines, small copy and reverses may not reproduce as submitted and may need to be altered to imprint clearly.

Half-tones are printed from 55 lpi-75 lpi for silk-screening. Line screen may vary per production requirements and variations in halftones or gradients cannot be guaranteed when printing. Half-tone printing is NOT AVAILABLE or NOT RECOMMENDED for all items. Please check with our sales department for further details.

Embroidery:

Embroidery plays a leading role in business apparel personalization. It presents a three-dimensional, upscale look with high perceived value that enhances the overall impression of a logo or design. Alternatives, such as screen printing, simply do not offer the same sense of style and quality.

Embroidery must interpret a design with thread, and we would like to make a few suggestions to help you take full advantage of this art form within its limitations.

Lettering can pose a set of problems all its own. A design with illegible or sloppy letters will distract from the whole embroidery. Sometimes, letters look fine on-screen, but, once sewn, are too close together, look crowded, or are too small.

Not all logos or designs are applicable for good embroidery unless designed specifically for that purpose. Important: For optimum results…your logo or design may need to be adjusted or re-designed to meet embroidery requirements.

TEXT SIZE
Letter size is an important consideration and Script or serif fonts are not advisable for small text. For best results, use capitalized letters in a sans serif font such as Arial. The minimum letter heights listed below are for sans serif, block letters, sewn in a satin stitch.

Suggested MINIMUM Letter Height by Fabric:
Pique, Terry cloth, Fleece .…. 1/ 4”
Twill, Most other fabrics …… 3/16”
